  • Said that David Moyes has full support from himself and the board.
  • Moyes has steadied the ship at Everton and got them back on track.

Everton host Sunderland in their final home match of the season as they look to snatch qualification for Europe.

David Moyes has guided the Toffees to this position and handed supporters a breath of fresh air as they have finally gone a season without the fear of relegation.

The Scotsman returned to Merseyside in January 2025, as Everton feared dropping out of the Premier League, but since then, they have proven they belong in the top tier of English football.

Surprisingly, Moyes has faced calls from some that he should no longer be in charge of the Blues, yet club CEO, Angus Kinnear, vocally supports the 67-year-old and believes he is the right man to lead Everton.

Reassuring support from Angus Kinnear

The Blues have been on the receiving end of some frustrating results this season, after two disappointing Merseyside defeats and some true thrashings at home.

In consequence, Moyes has been caught in the firing line of Evertonians’ frustrations, with some accusing him of safe tactics and pleading with the club to look for more ambitious options.

This is only natural in reaction to some gutting results, but with news that the likes of Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner will be leaving their managerial roles at the end of the season, there are still supporters who want the Toffees to make a push for a new coach.

They believe that these managerial options have more ambition, yet switching coaches would be absolutely ridiculous and send the club into another phase of uncertainty.

Under Moyes, there is a plan.

It may not be the prettiest, and it may not get Everton to the top of the tree, but what is guaranteed is stability, and that is exactly what the Blues need.

David Moyes can keep Everton stable

Everton faced a real threat of dropping to the Championship in their last four seasons.

But from the minute Moyes returned to the club in January 2025, they have looked a shadow of their former selves, and he has instilled belief back into the side.

The uncertainty of the Toffees’ status in the Premier League was unbearable, so the Scotsman deserves thanks for returning Everton to a position of stability and certainty.

It was pretty clear that the board would continue to fully support Moyes, as the process of removing and hiring a manager would just add to their already packed schedule for the upcoming summer.

Kinnear explained that the club will see another busy transfer window, overhauls in the academy and upgrades to Hill Dickinson Stadium, so sacking a manager would have been a nonsensical move.

But it is reassuring to this support in black and white, as the Toffees look to build on an impressive 2025-26 campaign.

Moyes may not be Everton’s long-term answer, and another name will likely complete their goal of reaching the top, but the 67-year-old is more than capable of laying the crucial foundations that the Toffees have been craving in recent seasons.
