- Everton have been linked with an exciting long-term midfield option.
- The Lille youngster is attracting interest from several English clubs.
- David Moyes may see significant potential in the versatile midfielder.
Everton’s search for midfield reinforcements this summer appears to be gathering momentum, and one name beginning to attract increasing attention is Lille midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau.
Recent reports have suggested the Blues are among several Premier League clubs monitoring the highly-rated 21-year-old, with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton also credited with interest in the DR Congo international.
While there is currently no indication that Everton have submitted an offer, the profile of player being linked makes plenty of sense.
The future beyond Gana
David Moyes faces a significant challenge in midfield over the coming seasons. Idrissa Gana Gueye remains hugely influential, but Everton must begin planning for the future, and Mukau looks exactly the type of young, athletic midfielder who fits that long-term vision.
The Lille star enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1, establishing himself as an increasingly important figure in midfield. At 6ft 1in, left-footed and capable of operating both as a defensive midfielder and in a more advanced central role, Mukau offers versatility alongside his physical attributes.
His development has been rapid.
After joining Lille from Belgian side KV Mechelen in 2024, Mukau quickly adapted to the demands of top-level football and even announced himself on the European stage with a memorable Champions League brace against Bologna. That progress has understandably attracted Premier League attention.
Mukau is one worth watching
Everton supporters will also recognise a familiar recruitment pathway. The Blues previously found success signing Amadou Onana from Lille, and Mukau’s emergence demonstrates once again the quality of talent being developed by the French club. While the two players possess different attributes, both fit the profile of young, physically impressive midfielders capable of making the step up to the Premier League.
Of course, any move remains speculative at this stage.
Lille are under no pressure to sell a player contracted until 2028 and are believed to view him as an important part of their long-term plans. However, interest from across the Premier League appears genuine, and Everton’s reported interest is certainly worth noting.
Whether the Blues formalise that interest remains to be seen.
But if Everton are serious about building a younger, more dynamic midfield capable of supporting Moyes’ long-term project, Mukau certainly looks like a player worth watching closely this summer.
