  • Jack Grealish has been rumoured to stay at Manchester City.
  • He spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Everton.
  • A return to City would be a poor move for his career.

Jack Grealish has been tipped with an opportunity to fight for his place at Manchester City.

Under Pep Guardiola, the pair did not function well together, and the winger was eventually made available for a loan move.

His temporary move to Everton has done wonders for a career that had stagnated at the Etihad Stadium.

But with Enzo Maresca now taking the top role at City, the 30-year-old could be given the chance to break back into the starting picture at his parent club.

A return to one of the best clubs in world football does have his merits, but Grealish would be far better off staying on Merseyside.

Jack Grealish would be starting fresh at Manchester City

Starting with a clean slate is actually a positive aspect of Grealish’s potential return with regard to his career, as it does provide an chance to show City’s new manager that he is still made for the top level of football.

Yet it also comes with a huge risk.

If Grealish does not make the most of his new opportunity, then he could find himself back on the substitutes bench after just a few poor matches.

Whereas at Everton he has credit in the bank.

This is not to say that with poor performances for the Blues, the winger can go free from criticism, but supporters have seen how magical he is on the pitch, and more patience would be shown by Evertonians as compared to City fans.

Going from a starting to player to a squad player

Adding to the fact Grealish has credit at Everton, he is able to hold onto his starting role due to this.

City are blessed with a variety of talented players, who the ex-Aston Villa captain would have to compete with if he returned to play in Manchester.

There is a possibilty that the 30-year-old continues his impressive form from this season, and win his place back in the main picture at City.

However, he is not getting any younger, so Grealish must ask himself, can he take a risk by giving up a starting role at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and replace that with depth role at the Etihad Stadium?

He will no doubt have his eye on a return to the England setup, and there was a genuine chance of this happening prior to his foot injury.

At Everton he can showcase his talents as a leading attacking player, yet at City he would likely be viewed for his use as an impact substitute.

Jack Grealish is enjoying his time at Everton

Grealish made his love for Everton clear, and the supporters have reciprocated this.

Even while he has been sidelined, the England international has shown his support on social media, and has continued his recovery on Merseyside.

He could have returned to City if he wished, but chose to remain with the Toffees.

At the crux of the rumour linking him to a return, is the fact that he has embraced being a part of Everton.

The winger has made no secret that he is enjoying his time there, so a player would be daft to give that up.

Grealish has reignited his career at Everton, and the way to keep this this fire burning is by remaining in a royal blue shirt.

matchday.
