- Everton team news reveals Gana is still out injured.
- Seamus Coleman may feature for the Blues.
- Grealish and Branthwaite remain long term absentees.
Everton host Sunderland tomorrow in their final home match of the 2025-26 season. David Moyes’ side are still chasing European qualification, but they will have to do without several key players.
Idrissa Gana Gueye remains out injured, having missed the past two matches against Manchester City and Crystal Palace. Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring) and Jack Grealish (foot) are also absent.
Ahead of the game, David Moyes faced the media and provided an update on the squad, while also paying tribute to Sunday’s opponents and addressing the future of the departing Seamus Coleman.
Everton team news: Gana and Branthwaite misses
The Everton manager confirmed that Gueye Gana is not yet ready to return. “Idrissa’s not fit for the game. Jarrad Branthwaite is out as well. He [Gana] is back on the grass, but he’s just not available for this game. There’s an outside chance he could make Tottenham, so we’ll see how it goes.”
On Idrissa Gana Gueye’s long‑term future, David Moyes was non‑committal. “Losing Seamus is a big blow. We’ll talk about Gana in the coming weeks. We’re on with a lot of business behind the scenes. We don’t need to talk about it in the media until it’s done.”
Seamus Coleman may make history against Sunderland
Regarding club captain Seamus Coleman, who is set to leave Everton at the end of the season, Moyes was asked whether the Irishman would feature on Sunday. “Seamus wouldn’t want me to say that because he wouldn’t want me to think that way. He would only think it should be done if it’s right and that’s the way I see it, as well.”
If Coleman does feature against Sunderland, he will make his 434th appearance for Everton, moving ahead of Dixie Dean and Leon Osman into 10th spot on the club’s all‑time appearances list.
Moyes praises Sunderland’s progress
The Everton boss also had kind words for Sunday’s opponents. “The manager’s done a brilliant job at Sunderland. The crowd there have been incredible. Certainly, at the Stadium of Light.”
“They might be the blueprint for a lot of teams coming up.”
Confirmed absentees for Everton
Out: Idrissa Gana Gueye (unspecified), Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring), Jack Grealish (foot)
With two games remaining, Everton’s European hopes are still hanging by a thread. A victory against Sunderland is essential to keep the pressure on the teams above them heading into the final day at Tottenham. The Hill Dickinson Stadium will bid farewell to its first season and possibly to a club legend.
