Eliaquim Mangala joins Everton on loan

Everton have announced the loan signing of Manchester City and France centre-back Eliaquim Mangala, subject to Premier League clearance.

When Aymeric Laporte was announced as a Man City player yesterday, Mangala’s place in Pep Guardiola’s pecking order dropped even lower and City were then prepared to let the defender go out on loan.

Mangala joins up with Sam Allardyce’s Everton, who have been looking for defensive reinforcements.

Many Toffees were growing increasingly frustrated with the defensive side of the team, with Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams proving often underwhelming at Goodison Park, but now they have the man to partner Michael Keane at the back.

Mangala will be the third major signing this window for Sam Allardyce, to add to Cenk Tosun from Besiktas and Theo Walcott from Arsenal.

All three players arguably improve the Blues’ side significantly and it now looks likely that Allardyce’s new club will stay in the Premier League after a less-than-convincing start under Ronald Koeman.

matchday.
