Virals: Blow for Everton as Tweet confirms injury setback for DCL

Everton star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks set to be absent for a ‘number of weeks’ following a setback in recovery from a thigh injury.

The 24-year-old had been expected to return to the fold in the near future having not featured since the 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on August 28.

On the same day that the England international was linked with a move to mega-rich Newcastle United, the Toffees’ official Twitter account confirmed a prolonged wait for a return to fitness.

Prior to the injury setback, Calvert-Lewin had scored in every Premier League game and was showing promising signs of eclipsing the exploits of the 2020/21 campaign.

There was more pain for Rafa Benitez this week as arguably the Blues’ player of the season so far, Abdoulaye Doucoure, suffered a stress fracture in his foot. An injury that is likely to rule the midfielder out for some time.

It would seem that it never rains but it pours on Goodison Park this Autumn.

Despite continued impressive displays amidst an injury crisis, Benitez’ side are heading into a hectic schedule with key players absent.

Both the £40.50million valued Calvert-Lewin and Doucourse are huge losses to the Spanish manager, albeit caveated by the return to fitness of Richarlison and the lesser-seen Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
