Naismith keen to “force” way into Everton plans

Steven Naismith has declared his desire to force his way back into Everton’s plans after being linked with a move away from the club.

The Scot has had to make do with plenty of bench time over recent weeks thanks to the form of a number of key Everton players – namely Arouna Kone, Gerard Deulofeu and Ross Barkley.

The attacking midfielder wants to prove his worth to manager Roberto Martinez, however, and try and get himself back in action over the busy Christmas period.

Speaking about the above, Naismith said (quotes via Liverpool Echo):

I have got to try and force my way in. I have worked hard in training, as I do all the time. We are coming up to a busy period and the manager has been known to use his squad, so I’ll be training as hard as I can to try and force my way in.

Naismith is acutely aware of the importance of these next few weeks – and he’s chomping at the bit to get involved and help the Merseysiders have a profitable festive fixture list.

We will need to be at it from the first game on Boxing Day right through to the end of this tough period. You definitely need to be picking points up. There are a few funny results around the Christmas period and you want to be on top of them.

Everton head to St James’ Park on Boxing Day for a tough game against Newcastle, and then face Stoke City just two days later, at Goodison Park.

The Blues then host Spurs on January 3rd, with a League Cup semi-final and FA Cup opener coming in quick succession after.

It’ll be key for Everton to gain some momentum and take that through into 2016 and Naismith seems ultra keen to aid where he can. He doesn’t want to give up on his Goodison career just yet.

matchday.
