James Rodriguez interested in joining Everton

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez is reportedly interested in signing for Everton this summer.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Rodriguez is willing to reject offers from other clubs in order to sign for Everton.

The report claims that he wants to link up with Carlo Ancelotti, with his Real Madrid contract expiring at the end of next season.

Signing Rodriguez could be a massive boost to Everton’s squad and improve their options in midfield. Whilst he has not featured much for Real Madrid this term, he largely impressed over two years on loan to Bayern Munich in the previous two campaigns.

In two seasons with Bayern, Rodriguez racked up 14 goals and 14 assists in the Bundesliga in just 32 starts. So, in total, he produced a goal contribution almost every game and showed that he still has what it takes to perform at the elite level.

Everton, meanwhile, have struggled for goals and assists from midfield. Bernard has the highest number of individual goals and assists for Everton’s midfield outside of the attacking duo of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He has just three goals and two assists in the Premier League, far short of the numbers that Rodriguez was able to produce for Bayern.

Rodriguez could add more of a threat in the final third for Everton, both in terms of goals and assists. This could then lead to Everton being able to challenge for the top six next season as they look to secure European football.
