Everton v Cardiff: Alex’s XI

It’s been an extended break from the Blues, and whenever that seems to be the case, I tend to always open with the same platitudes regarding how nice it’s been without worrying about Everton Football Club. However, even now as we’re gearing up to take on Cardiff, I forgot we were actually playing until I was prompted.

It’s not even a case of actively being irritated that Everton are back to ruin lives once again. They’re just there.

That, actually, is quite an apt description of the 2010s Everton mantra. A club that is simply there. No fuss, no shocking results, no relegation fears beyond ill-advised hysteria post-winless runs in November, no big signings that will shake the football world, no possible runs at a trophy, nothing.

Everton will simply continue to exist, and not much more than that. As a fan, that’s quite possibly the worst case scenario, as that kind of apathy generates diabolically low levels of involvement.

Maybe it will change, maybe it wont.

I’m just going to go back to what I was doing, anyway, not giving another thought to the game on Tuesday.

matchday.
