Everton tracking Dundee United’s Shankland

Everton have reportedly been scouting Dundee United forward Lawrence Shankland ahead of the January transfer window.

According a report in The Pink’Un, both Norwich and Everton have been tracking Shankland as they weigh up a move for the striker next month.

Shankland has been in sensational form for Dundee United this season, scoring 21 goals in 20 games in all competitions – with 19 in 16 in the Scottish Championship.

At 24, Shankland still has plenty of time to learn and develop as a player, so the fact that he is currently in the second tier of Scotland should not completely put anyone off of the idea of bringing him in. If two Premier League clubs, Everton and Norwich, are showing an interest it means that he must be showing qualities that could make him a success in England.

He has been prolific for Dundee United in the last few seasons, scoring 34 last term and 29 the season before that. This suggests that he is too good to be playing at that level and needs to make the step up, which a move to the Premier League would provide.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has picked up his form in recent weeks, but it would not hurt to bring another forward in to add competition for places in the squad. It would also give Carlo Ancelotti another option to use if he needed to rest Calvert-Lewin in a game.
