Everton: The Athletic drop Conor Coady transfer claim

Everton brought in several new players during the previous summer transfer window to freshen up Frank Lampard’s squad at Goodison Park.

One figure they brought in that has quickly become a key player for the Toffees is Conor Coady, who joined on a season-long loan deal from fellow Premier League side Wolves.

Even though there is still a long way to go before the season ends, it seems as though some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the possibility of seeing the Merseyside club secure the defender on a permanent deal in the future.

In a recent online Q&A from The Athletic including Everton journalists Patrick Boyland and Greg O’Keeffe, the duo were asked what the likelihood is of Coady’s loan move becoming a permanent one.

In response, they had this to say on the matter: “The early signs have been good on the whole. Coady has impressed internally with his communication and leadership and is very popular in the dressing room too.

“There’s a good chance it gets made permanent but Lampard suggested the other week they’ll wait until later in the season before making a firm decision.”

Since arriving at Goodison, the centre-back has played in 11 out of Everton’s 12 league games, completing the full 90 minutes in the last 10 of them.

To highlight how useful he has been for the team, only James Tarkowski (95) has made more clearances than Coady (59), who also only has Idrissa Gana Gueye (88%) above him for passing accuracy percentage (85.8%).

Now that the two journalists have revealed that the Goodison Park outfit have a good chance of signing the Englishman permanently, this should fill a lot of Everton fans with confidence and excitement that they will get it done.

Having been described as being an “important” figure for Everton because of his performances by Statman Dave on Twitter, it would surely be a no-brainer for the Toffees to do all they can to make his current loan deal a permanent one when they have the chance.
