Everton reject Sunderland Jagielka bid

Everton have today turned down an offer from Sunderland for defender Phil Jagielka. The news comes after the Toffees had made a £18-million offer for the Black Cats’ star man Lamine Kone on Monday evening.

It is believed by the Daily Mail that Sunderland wanted Jagielka as a part of the deal for Kone, with the Wearsiders in no rush to sell a man who they only signed in January for £5-million.

Jagielka, 33, was signed by Sunderland boss David Moyes during his time at Everton and it appears that the Scot would be keen on a reunion with the England international. However, with Everton looking to bolster their defence rather than weaken it following the sale of John Stones today, Sunderland’s interest in the former Sheffield United man could be a short one.

It will be interesting to see how this will effect the Lamine Kone deal, with both parties appearing to be reluctant to alter their terms, the Ivorian could well end up staying on Wearside after all.

matchday.
