Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has found himself on the end of some heavy praise as a result of his performances for the Toffees under the guidance of Frank Lampard.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, had this to say about the player following his performance in Everton’s recent 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
He said: “I have been really impressed with him this season.
“He was brilliant at the weekend. His all-round game has improved since Frank Lampard has come in. He is looking like a top player.
“When he left Arsenal there were question marks about his consistency and end product. We are seeing more quality from him in a deeper role.
“The backheel for the goal was amazing. He showed great awareness.
“He is just getting better and better. The system that Frank plays really suits him. Iwobi is a much better player than he was two years ago. He is improving game by game.”
In the win over Patrick Vieira’s side last weekend, the midfielder delivered two assists in the game, taking his tally up to five for the season.
To highlight how impressive the Nigerian has been for the Toffees this season, he currently tops the list at Goodison Park for the number of key passes (21), progressive passes (38) and passes into the 18-yard box (12) he has made.
Iwobi also has more goal-creating actions (4) to his name than any other Everton player, as well as the second-highest number of shot-creating actions (26), further showcasing how useful he is for the team in terms of his ability to create goalscoring opportunities.
The 26-year-old’s performances in this campaign have earned him a season rating of 6.83/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest rated outfield player at the club.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Robinson has been impressed with Iwobi and what he has done for the Toffees this season.
