Everton make Blaise Matuidi enquiry – would he be a smart signing?

Everton have reportedly made contact with Juventus over the possibility of signing midfielder Blaise Matuidi – but would he be a smart signing?

According to French outlet Le Parisien, cited by HITC, the Toffees have approached the Serie A champions regarding an ambitious move for the French midfielder.

The report doesn’t suggest a potential concrete offer, with the 32-year-old admitting previously that he watched Everton last season to see how fellow countryman Lucas Digne was getting on at Goodison Park.

A move would be a smart piece of business by the club if they can somehow get it over the line.

However, with some of Europe’s top sides keen on the player, Matuidi could well decide to move elsewhere.

If he decides to make the move to Merseyside, Matuidi would bring a wealth of experience to the club, with the Juventus man helping France to World Cup glory last summer.

The former Paris Saint-Germain has shown over the years that he has all the needed to succeed in the Premier League and would only push Everton in their bid to qualify for European football once again.

However, if a move for Matuidi is one to replace Idrissa Gueye, Toffees fans may prefer keeping hold of their current star over signing the experienced Juventus star.
