Everton are interested in Celtic’s Edouard – an unnecessary target

Everton are interested in rivalling Tottenham and Leicester to the signing of Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard this summer, according to Mail Online, although a deal doesn’t appear to make much sense for the Blues.

The French forward has excelled in Scotland this season, having scored an astounding 20 goals in 26 SPL games, while also assisting on 11 occasions too.

Now after having conducted a series of scouting trips to watch the forward in action, Mail Online report that Carlo Ancelotti is keen on signing the former Paris Saint-Germain man, while Celtic want him to sign a new contract.

However, any move for the 22-year old may have to come from a need to replace one of Everton’s current strikers, none of whom appear likely to leave the club any time soon.

Richarlison signed a bumper contract extension in December, while his strike partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new and improved five-year deal.

Moise Kean meanwhile was signed as one for the future in the summer, and while he hasn’t settled immediately at Goodison Park, Ancelotti has backed him to succeed on Merseyside.

Everton have more pressing concerns in the summer, namely at centre-back, in central midfield and on the right wing, and we feel the Toffees are unlikely to consider signing another player to a position that is well stocked.

Should Ancelotti sanction the sale of any of the three strikers, then Edouard, who Transfermarkt value at just £13.5million, could be a very viable replacement.

However, the likelihood of that happening, to us, appears to be admittedly slim.

matchday.
