Deulofeu: I need to play more minutes

Gerard Deulofeu has revealed he’s told boss Roberto Martinez he is impatient and needs to play more games, according to the Daily Express.

The young Spaniard joined the Toffees in the summer following a £4.25million move from Barcelona.

He was sent out on loan twice before making his permanent move this summer; first to Everton in the 2013/14 season where he became a fans favourite after his exciting performances. He then made the temporary switch to La Liga club Sevilla, but the move was considered to be largely unsuccessful.

With limited appearances so far and his action mostly from the bench, Deulofeu has already admitted his frustration with his lack of first-team football and has approached Roberto Martinez.

“The manager had told me to be calm.

“I need to play more minutes. I want to play more minutes. This, for me, is very important. I find it hard to be on the bench. Like all players, I do not like being a substitute. But I have to wait for my chance and try to take it when it comes.”

Despite a poor season last term, there’s no doubt the 21-year-old winger has talent as over the last year he has been named as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe.

“I am so happy to be back here. One of the most important reasons for coming back was that I had been so happy here during the year I had on loan. I felt at home here, very comfortable.

“This is my third professional season: a year in Everton, last year at Seville and now back here. I need to be a first-team player. I need to play a lot of games and feel important to a team.”

It will be interesting to see, following their conversation, whether Roberto Martinez will start Gerard Deulofeu or whether he’ll be on the bench again tonight as Everton face West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Do you think Deulofeu deserves to start more games?
