Despite Everton’s stunning 6-2 victory over Sunderland, midfielder Gareth Barry has called for Everton to be more solid in defense. Everton were 2-0 up and cruising in this game when two defensive errors allowed Sunderland a foothold in the game. If it was not for Everton’s attacking prowess Sunderland could have had more of a say in the final outcome of this game.
Tim Howard has come under severe criticism in recent weeks, Phil Jagielka has been ruled out for two months with injury, while Seamus Coleman, John Stones, Bryan Oviedo, Leighton Baines and Brendan Galloway have also spent time on the treatment table.

Barry told the Liverpool Echo:
We always fancy that we are going to create chances so if we can keep it tight at the other end, then we fancy our chances of nicking games.
Barry also conceded that it was defensive fragility that allowed Sunderland back into the game at Goodison Park, saying:
If we go in at half time 2-0 up then we are really comfortable and the confidence is different and their whole out look to the second half is different.

Everton’s play in attack saved the day with Kone, Lukaku and Deulofeu being major thorns in the side of Sunderland. Barry also commented on how training this week will be focused on conceding less goals as it is vital to ensure that Everton’s run of victories continue.

But defensively, throughout the week, I am sure we are going to have a look at a few things because they had chances but we are going to enjoy the win because it is not often to score six goals.
Yesterdays game was Gareth Barry’s 573rd Premier League appearance, and he’ll be looking to make it 574 at Upton Park this weekend.
