Brighton v Everton – Not to be televised in the UK

This Sunday’s Premier League clash between Brighton and Everton will not be broadcast live on UK television despite its 1:30pm kick off – a slot associated with Sky Sports broadcast.

With Everton in much need for a win at Brighton after going through a poor patch of results, UK fans will have to wait until the evening to catch highlights on Match of the Day 2.

The reasoning behind the bizarre move comes from a combination of a Sky Sports’ snub and international interest, in particular, India’s Star Sports. Instead, Sky will be showing live coverage of the Championship match of local rivals Derby County and Nottingham Forest in the same slot. Original plans saw the visit of Everton to the Amex Stadium as a back-up fifth match to be televised this weekend. However, when Sky made the choice not to show the Premier League match, availability went to international broadcasters. The match will be shown at 6pm in Mumbai.

It is believed 3000 Evertonians will make the trip from Merseyside, with both sides locked together on 7 points. Brighton have a superior goal difference meaning a two place difference in the table. Ronald Koeman will be desperate for a win to relieve some pressure on him whilst Brighton will be looking to add further points in their bid for Premier League survival.

matchday.
