According to reports in Colombia, Everton have made contact with Arsenal over the possible transfer of David Ospina, who now has been pushed down the pecking order in the Emirates after the arrival of Petr Cech.
Much like current incumbent Tim Howard, the 26-year-old had a superb World Cup and followed it up with an unblemished season in the Premier League. He made a total of 18 appearances for the Gunners, accumulating 8 clean sheets to Howard’s 7, who had played 14 more games than the Colombian international.
Howard has been a magnificent servant to Everton ever since he made the move from Manchester United, but his age seems to be catching up with him, which was evident for large parts of last season.
Ospina, who is at the right age and has a decent amount of experience in the league, could be the perfect man in-between the sticks for Martinez’s side. Recently he has shown his capability of pulling off world class saves like his double save against Argentina in the Copa America Semi-Finals.
If Everton were to make a move Ospina, he would challenge Howard for a place in the starting 11 and be an option for the future.
