Everton linked with Celtic defender Alistair Johnston

Everton have been credited with an interest in Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston, though any move is unlikely to come cheaply.

According to Record Sport, the Blues are among the clubs monitoring the Canada international, with Fulham also retaining a long-standing interest. Johnston signed a new contract with Celtic earlier this year, keeping him at the club until 2029.

That leaves the Scottish champions in a strong position should interest develop into a formal approach, with the report suggesting it would take a significant offer to prise the 26-year-old away from Glasgow.

Johnston has established himself as one of Celtic’s most consistent performers since arriving from CF Montréal in 2023. Comfortable going forward as well as defensively, he has also become a key figure for Canada on the international stage.

Everton’s right-back options have come under much scrutiny this summer amid uncertainty over Nathan Patterson’s future, with the Scotland international attracting interest from clubs in Germany, Spain and Italy.

At this stage, there is no suggestion Everton have made an offer, and the reported interest appears to be in its early stages.

However, Johnston is another name to emerge as the club continue to assess options before the transfer window closes.
