The 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway and Everton supporters have four players to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.

Jordan Pickford, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Iliman Ndiaye, and Nathan Patterson are all representing their countries in North America, with David Moyes certain to be monitoring their progress ahead of the new season at the Hill Dickinson.

Scotland have already made a winning start to the tournament, while Senegal’s campaign began with a 3-1 defeat to France on Tuesday evening. England begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Wednesday night.

Jordan Pickford (England)

Pickford heads into another major tournament as England’s undisputed number one.

The Everton goalkeeper has become one of the Three Lions’ most dependable performers and will be expected to play a key role if England are to challenge for the trophy.

Idrissa Gana Gueye (Senegal)

Gueye started Senegal’s opening Group I fixture against France as the African side suffered a 3-1 defeat.

The experienced midfielder was unable to prevent France from taking control of the contest, leaving Senegal with work to do in their remaining matches against Norway and Iraq.

Despite the setback, Senegal remain firmly in contention to qualify for the knockout stages with two group matches still to play.

Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal)

Ndiaye also featured in Senegal’s defeat to France, making his first appearance of the tournament.

The Everton forward will hope to make a greater impact in Senegal’s remaining group fixtures as they attempt to recover from their opening defeat.

His creativity and ability to unlock defences could prove crucial in the matches against Norway and Iraq.

Nathan Patterson (Scotland)

Patterson is the first Everton player to feature at World Cup 2026 after Scotland made a winning start to the competition.

Steve Clarke’s side defeated Haiti 1-0 in their opening Group C fixture, giving themselves an excellent platform ahead of matches against Morocco and Brazil.

The defender completed 90 minutes in the victory and will be hoping to help Scotland secure qualification for the knockout stages.

Everton’s World Cup representation

Everton’s players have experienced mixed fortunes during the opening week of the tournament.

Patterson and Scotland have already taken an important step towards the knockout stages with victory over Haiti, while Gueye and Ndiaye will be looking to help Senegal respond after their defeat to France.

Attention now turns to Pickford and England, who begin their campaign against Croatia before Senegal attempt to revive their hopes against Norway.
