Everton’s confidence over Iliman Ndiaye is about to be tested

Share
  • Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Iliman Ndiaye.
  • Everton remain relaxed despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding a new contract.
  • David Moyes views the Senegal international as a cornerstone of his project.

Everton’s relaxed stance regarding Iliman Ndiaye’s future has been one of the more reassuring stories for supporters heading into the summer transfer window.

However, that confidence could soon face its biggest test.

Fresh reports suggest Manchester United are weighing up a move for Ndiaye, with the Senegal international continuing to attract attention following an impressive campaign at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

On the surface, Everton’s position remains unchanged. Ndiaye is contracted until 2029 and the club are under no pressure to sell. Yet reported interest from one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs serves as a reminder of why securing the long-term future of the 26-year-old remains such an important priority.

Everton have every reason to stand firm

Earlier this week, reports indicated Everton remained calm despite ongoing discussions over improved contract terms failing to produce an immediate breakthrough.

That confidence stems largely from the club’s strong contractual position.

Unlike many of the transfer sagas that dominate summer headlines, Everton are not dealing with a player approaching the final years of his deal. Ndiaye still has three years remaining on his current contract, giving the Blues significant leverage in any future negotiations.

That security is likely to explain why there has been no indication of panic despite speculation continuing to grow.

From Everton’s perspective, there is little incentive to entertain offers for a player who has become one of the team’s most influential attacking figures.

Why Ndiaye is attracting attention

The reported interest from Manchester United would be understandable.

Ndiaye’s combination of creativity, ball-carrying ability and versatility has made him one of Everton’s standout performers since arriving from Marseille. His ability to operate across multiple attacking positions also makes him an attractive option for clubs looking to add flexibility to their forward line.

Perhaps more importantly, he represents the type of player Everton themselves are attempting to build around under David Moyes.

As the club enters a new era under The Friedkin Group, retaining its best performers is every bit as important as identifying new signings.

Allowing key players to leave would only increase the scale of the rebuild required.

What happens next?

For now, there is little evidence to suggest Everton’s position has changed.

The club remain protected by Ndiaye’s long-term contract and continue to view him as a central figure in Moyes’ plans moving forward.

That said, reports linking clubs with greater financial power to Everton’s most valuable assets are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.

If anything, they underline the progress Ndiaye has made on Merseyside.

The real test of Everton’s confidence may not be whether interest arrives, but how successfully the club can convince one of their most important players that his future is best served at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Based on everything that has emerged so far, Everton appear determined to ensure that remains the case.

matchday.
