It’s a crazy thought that after two full season as manager of Everton there are still some positions that Roberto Martinez is not sure on going into games; notably the two positions on the wings. But on the weekend he must be brave and field an team that can beat Liverpool, not just avoid defeat.
For the majority of last season and most games this season Martinez has played a lopsided team with one winger playing in his correct position and maybe Ross Barkley, Kone or Naismith on the other side as an inverted winger/old inside forward. This season he trusted Cleverley in that role with Barkley starting to nail down the Number 10 position.
This may be effective in some games but more often than not it leaves the team disjointed and unbalanced.
So what’s the alternative? Funnily enough it’s simple; play the players you have in their normal position. After Deulofeu’s impressive performance on Monday night surely he is nailed on. But what about the other side? Naismith was the man for the last two games, although it seems he is just being played due to the hat-trick he scored against Chelsea.
With Liverpool’s shaky start in mind Roberto must try to take advantage and play Aaron Lennon. Hit them with pace and try to worry their back four who don’t seem to have formed a strong bond between them.

Aaron Lennon has had to be patient since his deal was made permanent.
Martinez may go back to Kone playing as a wide striker after his goal against West Brom. Although this will weaken the bench and possibly the starting eleven.
It’s been a long time since Everton got one over their local rivals. This could be the best possible time to play them. Liverpool may not be in the best of form but as we know the form book goes out the window when it comes to derbies and Everton will have to be on the top of their game. But will Roberto stick or twist with his team selection ?
