Wayne Rooney’s potential return to Goodison Park is being severely hindered by his high wage demands and the deal could ultimately be called off by Ronald Koeman, according to a report on the Liverpool Echo, who cite the Daily Star.
Manchester United’s record goalscorer Rooney has been linked with a move back to boyhood club Everton after falling out of favour at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.

However, his return to Merseyside could be in danger of collapsing as Everton are reluctant to meet his wage demands. The striker is currently earning at least £250,000 a week for United but Everton are not ready to offer him such a high figure.
It is understood that Rooney has accepted the fact that his future is not at Old Trafford after he fell out of favour with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
Everton are happy with bringing Rooney to the club as it would increase their reputation and also add experience to a young squad, but Koeman is only willing to offer £140,000 a week and is not willing to break Everton’s wage structure just for the 31-year-old.
Rooney is still undecided about his future and has also been heavily linked with a big-money move to the Chinese Super League.
