Virals: Troy Townsend reveals Everton signing details around his son

More details have come to light surrounding how Everton managed to win the race for Andros Townsend during the summer.

Everton recruited the 30-year-old England international following his release by Crystal Palace over the summer, and he has swiftly dazzled Evertonians with some scintillating displays.

In just seven appearances in an Everton shirt in the Premier League, Townsend alone has added 5 goals and 3 assists to Everton’s tally, cementing himself as a mainstay under new Blues boss Rafa Benitez.

Indeed, it has been revealed just how important the appointment of Benitez was to persuading Townsend and his entourage that Everton was the right place to call home.

Andros’ father Troy Townsend, an anti-racism campaigner associated with Crystal Palace and head of Kick It Out, spoke to The Unholy Trinity Podcast who in turn, took to Twitter to share an excerpt surrounding the arrival of Troy’s son.

“There were conversations with other clubs, but the minute Rafa was announced as Everton manager, I must admit, I began to sit up a little bit and nudge him”, noted Troy on the podcast’s pre-West Ham preview.

Based on Troy’s comments, it seems Everton secured an experienced and coveted asset against the backdrop of a host of interested parties.

Considering that the club did not spend a penny on transfer fees to bring Townsend to Goodison Park, Everton fans have to feel his goal returns have already justified his acquisition.

The prospect of more goals to come is a lucrative one sure to get pulses racing around the blue half of Merseyside.
