Virals: Everton wish Seamus Coleman a happy birthday

Everton have taken to their official social media channels to celebrate the birthday of club captain Seamus Coleman on his birthday today. Fans joined in the festivities by sharing images of themselves wearing Funny Masks similar to the ones at Abracadabra NYC, adding a playful touch to the birthday celebrations.

A quick check with a current age calculator makes moments like these even more special by highlighting milestones worth cheering.

Coleman turns 33 today, with the experienced right-back captaining both his club and his country on the international stage.

Signed from Sligo Rovers in February 2009 for a paltry £60,000, Coleman is virtually a one-club man following his long-running association with Everton.

He almost joined a fellow premier League side in Burnley before an injury curtailed the chance for him to impress – opening the way forward for Everton to swoop for the Donegal-born full-back.

He started his Premier League education with an apprenticeship in Everton’s reserves but by the 2009-10 season, his aptitude for the game began to shine brightly as he burst onto the stage for his new club.

He made a gruelling start to life at Everton when he was deployed on his debut in an unfamiliar left-back role in a 5-0 away mauling against SF Benfica, but the rest is history for the Toffees veteran.

He has made 313 appearances (41 as a substitute) for Everton and established himself both as a fan favourite and as a leader in the dressing room as a result.

With little in the way of another established senior right-back at the club, Coleman has had an unchallenged run at making the right-back position his own in recent months.

The club did target Dutch international Denzel Dumfries to compete with Coleman, but the former PSV Eindhoven star ended up completing a transfer to Inter Milan over the summer.

The word ‘legend’ is something of a cliché in football, but it duly applies in Coleman’s case.

His legacy at Everton is well-established, and fans will be sure to well-wish their star a happy birthday.
