Everton fans have been delivered a significant update on the club’s pursuit of reported top target Denzel Dumfries.
The 25-year-old Dutch right-back – who shone for Frank de Boer’s ultimately unsuccessful Netherland team at Euro 2020 – is set to see interest from Everton formalise.
Sharing an update from Italian source Gazzetta Dello Sport [via SportWitness], Everton fan podcast The Toffee Blues (@EvertonNewsFeed) took to Twitter to deliver an update to Evertonian followers.
According to the publication, Everton are set to hold formal talks with the player in order to convince him to make the switch from PSV Eindhoven to Goodison Park.
Rafa Benitez has given the green light for the club to pursue the energetic full-back, with the club seemingly in pole position to sign Dumfries.
Inter Milan have also been heavily linked with the player, but the source notes that the Scudetto holders are baulking at the €20 million price tag that PSV are demanding. The asking price is said to be ‘not practicable’ for Inter.
Dumfries had been earmarked as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who recently joined PSG from Inter.
Inter are suffering from a debt crisis that indirectly led to the end of Antonio Conte’s spell at the club following board demands to retract investment and sell key players.

With the Toffees in an advantageous position in the race for Dumfries, striking while the iron is hot could be crucial in ensuring late interest from other suitors does not emerge.
It is important to note that interest in Dumfries is only at an early, tentative stage with no bids tabled.
However, initial interest is showing first signs of development in an update sure to trigger keen interest from fans.
