Everton could be set to sensationally see their manager leave for Real Madrid today following the latest reports on Carlo Ancelotti’s situation.
The Italian tactician has recently been linked with a return to his former club in the Spanish capital following the confirmed departure of Zinedine Zidane.
However, a tantalising twist has seen reports in Marca, as cited by OneFootball, claim that Ancelotti is set to be announced today as Real Madrid’s new manager.
After less than two years with the Toffees, a Merseyside-to-Madrid switch was hinted at by Alessandro Alciato who cryptically tweeted ‘Vamos, Carletto’ in a homage to Ancelotti’s Spanish nickname.
Alciato is no stranger on the periphery of Ancelotti’s circle; indeed, Alciato is the man that ghost-wrote the Italian manager’s autobiography and surely enjoys a close relationship with Ancelotti as a result.
Other candidates were said to be in the running for the Real Madrid job, including the likes of Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino – though if the latest reports are to be believed, Madrid are seeking a reunion with yet another former manager.

A sudden departure from Goodison Park would leave the footballing world flabbergasted with seemingly no advanced warning.
Having only first been linked on Monday with the vacant Bernabeu job, it will certainly be a swift turnaround – though Evertonians can breathe half a sigh of relief.
Transfer expert and journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed reports that Real Madrid are indeed in talks with Ancelotti’s entourage – but also that no agreement was yet confirmed.
It remains to be seen as to which source is true, though it is improbable that compensation with Everton and a contract alike were both agreed within the last day.
This saga only looks destined to develop further.
