Everton appear to be closing in on a deal to sign experienced Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon as they look to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
According to writer Peter Guy on Twitter (@getintothis), it ‘sounds’ as though there is a ‘done deal’ for the former Newcastle loanee who has worked closely with new Toffees boss Rafa Benitez at both Newcastle and Chinese side Dalian Professional.

Guy described him as a striker who is ‘hardly going to excite many’ but nonetheless as ‘a solid addition on the bench as back-up for [Calvert-Lewin].’
Everton have made an impressive start to the Premier League despite spending just £1.7m in the market to date, having won seven points of a possible nine from their opening three fixtures.
The Blues have brought in Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend on free transfers, with Demarai Gray – who has scored twice in three Premier League games – joining from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for a nominal fee.
Versatile Colombian attacker Luis Diaz is also potentially arriving from Porto in a swap deal with James Rodriguez.
According to Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers, who delivered a seven-word update via Twitter on Sunday evening, also confirmed that talks were on for Rondon: “Everton in talks to sign Salomon Rondon.”

A deal to sign Rondon could prove to be a shrewd one.
The Venezuela international has scored 26 goals in 61 appearances during his spells working with Benitez and could fit in superbly as a competitive target-man option to challenge Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
With Moise Kean on the cusp of re-joining Juventus, the need for a proven striker is all the more obvious.
