Unsworth reveals Evans could leave in January – which deal should Everton pursue?

David Unsworth has revealed that Antony Evans could depart Everton in January, either in a permanent move or a loan deal.

The 21-year attacker has excelled so far this season for Everton’s Under-23s side, scoring three goals and assisting four in the club’s attempted Premier League 2 title defence.

Despite being highly rated at USM Finch Farm however, Evans has entered the final 12 months of his contract on Merseyside, and it looks likely that he’ll leave the club.

Talking to the Liverpool Echo, Unsworth speculated that it could be either a permanent switch or simply a loan deal, with Evans’ path to the first-team currently blocked by the vast amount of depth in youth options. Unsworth said:

I still think it will materialise, I just think it will be in January because he’s producing levels of performance and he’s scoring goals now.

It gets his name on the sheet, his profile raised and I think, I’ve no doubt, that he’ll get a move.

Meanwhile, Unsworth doubts that Dennis Adeniran will leave the club on loan, with the midfielder training with the first-team on a regular basis. Unsworth said on Adeniran:

There’s a potential of Dennis. I’m not too sure, he trains with the first-team every day which is great for him and he’s getting his games with us.

[A loan] might be a possibility but it wouldn’t surprise me if he stayed until the end of the season with the first-team so who knows?

With players like Ellis Simms, Anthony Gordon and Fraser Hornby coming through at Everton, with so many more options below them, it is no surprise that someone like Antony Evans may be forced to explore other options.

Everton have (criminally underrated) one of the best acamdey systems in this country, but there are only so many places for that talent to come through into. We’ve seen that in the past with so many award winning starlets being let go of because of the sheer level of competition at Goodison Park.

Hopefully Evans leaves on loan so Everton can make a decision at a later date, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he leaves permanently.
