Tosun wanted by Qatari club – should Everton let him go?

We reported on the news earlier today that Qatari club Al Gharafa are interested in signing Cenk Tosun and are prepared to make a substantial bid, according to Sky Sports News.

The Cheetahs would offer a three-year contract to the Turkey international, who has found game time hard to come by so far this season.

Sport Witness covered a report yesterday that claimed the 28-year old striker was unhappy with his current situation, and although he’d ideally like to remain at Goodison Park, he could explore other options in January if he doesn’t soon receive more minutes.

Tosun’s only appearance for Everton so far this season has been a brief cameo against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, where he assisted Alex Iwobi’s first goal for the club.

Does Marco Silva have a difficult decision to make?

I have long maintained that Everton should keep Tosun on Merseyside. He adds further depth to Everton’s striker department, and the Turkish forward offers a completely different play style to that of both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean.

However I can also sympathise. With goals hard to come by at the moment from Everton’s young strike-force, I would like to see Tosun handed an opportunity to impress, and if he is continually left out of the match-day squad then I can completely understand his desire to depart.

It has to be on the right terms for Everton, of course, and by the sounds of Sky Sports’ report, it could be relatively lucrative.

It all comes down to Marco Silva and whether he can see a way make for Tosun. If he believes he is an asset worth keeping, then I’m all for it, but if he doesn’t plan on using Tosun at all this season unless needs must, then we might as well cash in.
