Cenk Tosun has revealed the thought behind his choice to wear No. 14 for Everton this season, saying his inspiration came from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Tosun previously wore the No. 23 jersey with Beşiktaş which Turkish Football claim was in honour of former Chicago Bulls superstar and NBA legend Michael Jordan.
However, Séamus Coleman currently dons that number for Everton, and has done since he returned from a loan spell with Blackpool in 2010.
The Turkey international striker knew not to ask the Republic of Ireland captain to give up his number, electing to follow a Premier League legend and choose No. 14 instead.
Talking to Turkish Sozcu (via Turkish Football), Tosun said;
Seamus Coleman has been number 23 for eight years so I knew to forget about that.
I really like Seamus, I didn’t even ask, it wouldn’t have been cool.
I turned my attention to number 14, it has been worn by some of the greats like Thierry Henry so that is the rationale behind my thinking.
Tosun has scored four goals in his last three games, as he looks to finally be beginning to settle into the Toffees’ set-up.
