Sissoko opens up over Everton deal

Moussa Sissoko has claimed that he chose to sign for Tottenham Hotspur after Everton dithered over a deal with Newcastle United, as reported by the Telegraph.

The Toffees looked set to sign the France international on deadline day before Spurs launched an 11th-hour bid, matching Everton’s £30million bid.

After deadline day, majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri released a statement to Sky Sports revealing that the club pulled the plug on a potential deal so that they could concentrate on keeping James McCarthy at the club.

Evertonian’s and journalists alike did not buy into this, and many reported that the club were in fact extremely disappointed in Sissoko and his representatives after having his medical prepped before he decided on Spurs.

Speaking this week, Sissoko explained:

It’s simple. I spoke with Everton in the past, but they didn’t make an offer to Newcastle when I wanted. And then Tottenham came. And so when they came, I wanted to join this club directly

Some fans reacted positively to the players rejection, with many Evertonian’s, as well as Newcastle fans, maintaining that the Toffees have dodged a bullet in terms of the huge £30million fee that the Magpies commanded.

Everton are looking to make it five wins in a row as they face Middlesbrough in the late kick-off tomorrow.
