Everton had a particularly busy summer in terms of the number of players who joined or left the club.
With the January transfer window gradually approaching, it seems as though the club’s director of football Kevin Thelwell has been given a suggestion over what sort of player the Toffees should be looking to bring in next.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Simon Phillips had his say as to what area of the squad Everton could do with bolstering and what sort of player they should look to bring in to help them to that effect.
He said: “I think they could do with another all-rounder, a general striker, perhaps one who could also play wide if needed, anywhere across the front three.
“They could use more versatility there and a different type of option.”
Prior to Everton’s midweek match against Newcastle United, Lampard’s side have the joint-second lowest rate of goals per shot (0.06) and the second-lowest rate of goals per shot on target (0.19) in the Premier League.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Phillips thinks that a new attacker should be a priority for Thelwell in terms of potential new recruits in January and beyond, particularly one who can be clinical in front of goal.
Bearing in mind how Dominic Calvert-Lewin has an awful injury record and that Salomon Rondon has only been able to score three times in 31 appearances for the Toffees prior to their midweek game against Newcastle, this only highlights the potential need for another attacker to be added to Lampard’s squad.
Depending on what shape Everton are in by the time the January transfer window opens for business, keeping an eye out for any suitable attacking players to sign during this period is definitely something which should be in Thelwell’s plans for the time being.
