  • Anthony Gordon has been slammed by Allardyce for his attitude
  • The Former Everton winger is linked with Barcelona nd Bayern Munich
  • Anthony Gordon had previously refused training, forcing a move from Everton

Anthony Gordon’s time at Newcastle United appears to be approaching an end. The former Everton winger has been an unused substitute in the Magpies’ previous two matches, and speculation over his future has intensified.

Gordon has been linked with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with Sky Sports Germany reporting that Gordon has already agreed personal terms with the German champions. His representatives were previously seen in Barcelona as well. Bayern are currently offering €60m, but Newcastle have not yet lowered their demands, and no agreement is in sight.

Gordon has 6 goals and 2 assists in 26 Premier League appearances this season. Despite his impressive numbers, his place in the team has faded, leading to accusations that he has downed tools.

Allardyce: ‘He’s already made the statement, he doesn’t want to be there’

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has not held back in his criticism of the 25-year-old. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce said: “He’s already made the statement, he doesn’t want to be there. His agent has already been out talking [to other clubs]. He did the same at Everton.

“I think there is so much research now that goes on, or has to go on, about a football player like Anthony Gordon or [Alexander] Isak, that they are going to throw the towel in as soon as somebody bigger comes in for them. I think there needs to be a real look at that situation.”

Allardyce also took a jibe at the Professional Footballers’ Association for not disciplining players who force moves. “You don’t see the PFA, it’s disgraceful not coming out and slaughtering the player. They are straight away jumping on your back if you try to discipline them or trying to fine them. They will say: ‘oh we will have to go to an appeal and you go: ‘Shut up’. I almost swore there but you then go: ‘All right, we will just not play them. How about that?’

“I think there should be a bigger punishment for that. And people need to look at contracts and write contracts in because it appears that when they decide they don’t like the contract any more they go when they feel like it. And the agent goes and does the deal on the side.”

Anthony Gordon situation is familiar pattern for Everton fans

Allardyce’s reference to Anthony Gordon doing “the same at Everton” will resonate with Toffees supporters. Gordon came through the Everton academy and broke into the first team before forcing a move to Newcastle in January 2023. His departure left a sour taste, with reports of him refusing to train to push through the transfer. Now, history appears to be repeating itself at St James’ Park.

Anthony Gordon, according to reports, now prefers a move abroad. Bayern Munich is his desired destination. Whether Newcastle will accept Bayern’s €60m offer remains to be seen, but Allardyce’s verdict is clear that the winger has thrown the towel in. Everton fans, who watched him force his way out of Goodison Park, can only watch from a distance as another club deals with the same pattern of behaviour.
