In Ronald Koeman’s debut season in charge of Everton, the Toffees have been ‘the best of the rest’.
Currently sitting comfortably in seventh place, Koeman’s side are 14 points clear of eighth-placed West Brom but remain several points adrift of a top four place.
Now a Europa League place for next season is secure, Everton’s target for next season is to try and break into that top four and qualify for the Champions League.
A major part of that is keeping hold of Romelu Lukaku who has hinted that he could be leaving in the near future, but perhaps Everton should try and sweeten the pot for Koeman to persuade him to stick around.
With Luis Enrique leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, Koeman’s name has been mentioned as a potential replacement and the former Barcelona star admits that the job would be a dream role for him in an interview with Marca (h/t Sport Witness).
You see, everyone knows that I am from Barca, they know my love for a club where I grew up as a player and as a person.
In my life as a professional coach I have two dreams to fulfil. One, coach the selection of my country, Holland. I have been able to do so, but my obligation to Everton has prevented me [from fulfilling my other dream].
My other wish, my other dream, is to one day coach Barca. That’s the truth. I now owe to Everton. We have a very powerful and exciting project and we will reinforce our best to try to reach next season the Champions League.
It seems Koeman is committed to the exciting cause at Goodison Park right now, but if Barcelona came calling, it’s clear for all to see that he’d find it tough turning down the opportunity.
