Juventus could look to sell former Everton target Aaron Ramsey in the summer, according to Mail Online, but should the Toffees renew their interest?
The Welsh international joined the Turin outfit from Arsenal in January 2019, after his contract offer to remain at the Emirates was pulled by the club, leaving him free to find a new club (Guardian Sport).
The 29-year was then tipped to reunite with former Arsenal teammate Theo Walcott at Goodison Park (Express Sport), following speculation that Everton were interesting in signing the midfielder whom they had previously pursued during his time with Cardiff.
Ramsey’s season has been broken up by several injury issues under Maurizio Sarri, with the Welshman having only managed 12 Serie A appearances during the current campaign (Transfermarkt), and Juventus could now look to make a profit.
Juventus signed Ramsey for a price of £3.2million in lieu of a traditional transfer offer, and the Serie A champions feel that they could make a profit on the midfielder should they sell him in the summer.
Everton could certainly be one particular club to gage interest in the Welshman if Juventus do indeed place him on the transfer market, following the club’s own midfield issues this season.
With JP Gbamin and Andre Gomes having both suffered long-term injuries, Everton were forced to rely on Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin to fill the gaps in the holding midfield roles.
While both Gbamin and Gomes should be fit for the beginning of next season, Everton’s struggles this season could see Carlo Ancelotti strengthen that area, as the alternatives don’t appear to be able to live up to the same standards set down by Andre Gomes, while Gbamin has yet to get a fair crack for the Blues.
Everton’s major issue will be in the wage department, with Mail Online claiming that Ramsey is currently on more than £400,000-a-week in Turin, having become the highest-paid British player after penning a contract in Italy.
The Toffees are unlikely to be able to offer the Welshman even half of that weekly wage packet, with Spotrac reporting that Bernard and Yerry Mina are both Everton’s current highest earners, pocketing £120,000-a-week.
Described by Martin Keown as being at “his peak” when leaving the Gunners, Ramsey could prove to have enough quality on the pitch to make a real difference for Everton next season, as they look to break back into Europe.
However any prospective deal will hinge on the midfielder’s wage demands, and whether he would be willing to accept a huge decrease in salary to return to the Premier League.
