Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure made the switch from relegated side Watford to Goodison Park over the summer – although he has been a Toffees target for some time before then.
Watford reportedly rejected a £30m offer in the summer of 2019 for the defensive midfielder before the context of relegation transformed the prospects of the 27-year-old remaining at Vicarage Road.
Consequently, Doucoure swapped Hertfordshire for Merseyside as he linked up as part of a wider rebuild of Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield for the handsome sum of £20m.
The Frenchman was the third signing in just four days for the Toffees as they bolstered their options in one fell swoop. Allan and James Rodriguez were recent arrivals immediately before Doucoure made the switch of his own.
His career has been long and varied, whilst he offers a wealth of Premier League experience. In a further boost to the Toffees, the 27-year-old has shown a relative loyalty for his previous clubs, spending the best part of four years at both Rennes and Watford.
