A strike partnership of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Joshua King could be a ‘match made in heaven ‘for Everton, according to former Premier League striker Noel Whelan.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan iterated a belief that the differing qualities between the two strikers opens strong possibilities for Ancelotti’s attack.
King opted to leave Bournemouth for Everton amid late interest from Fulham on deadline day, signing a short-term permanent deal with the Toffees.
Hailing him as a ‘really shrewd’ acquisition, Whelan was clear on how King opens up new angles for Ancelotti’s offensive approach, saying:
I’m just happy that the move has actually happened because I’m sick of talking about it! Now he’s got the move and is out of Bournemouth which was a long saga in itself.
I think that’s a really shrewd move by Ancelotti. He’s got someone with a bit of pace, a real direct style of running, plays on the shoulder of defenders.
I think if he gets a good relationship going with Calvert-Lewin that could be a match made in heaven.

Whelan has a fair point; the Everton duo possess differing qualities which could complement each other superbly.
King is more of a traditional centre-forward, dropping slightly deeper into pockets of space behind the striker, looking to pounce upon loose balls. Conversely, Calvert-Lewin’s aerial threat renders him more of a target man who aims to muscle through defences.
His well-taken goal from a set piece routine in the 2-1 victory over Leeds serves as prime evidence of the different qualities he has compared to King – but both can prove to be equally deadly.
