Everton target Monchi looks set to stay at Sevilla after suggestions that the former goalkeeper could join Everton in a sporting director role.
It was reported yesterday that Farhad Moshiri was targeting Monchi – whose real name is Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo – as the club looked to rebuild it’s structure, with a director of football at the top of the Iranian’s list.
Monchi is regarded as one of the best sporting directors in the world, completing deals for players such as Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic on the cheap and selling them on for extreme amounts of profit.
Now, after another trophy won with Sevilla this season, it is thought that the Spaniard seeks a new challenge but the Spanish club are reluctant to let him go and expect him to see out his current contract which expires in 2020.

Another implication of this deal could be the future of Sevilla manager Unai Emery, who is now thought to be Everton’s number one target to replace Roberto Martinez this summer.
According to Sky Sports, the two would welcome the chance to work together in England, thus leaving Everton the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. How easy that will be for Farhad Moshiri is another matter.
Emery’s release clause is thought to drop to €2million today while Monchi is thought to have one of £3.8m. Should Everton official’s convince the pair to swap Seville for Merseyside, it would give the club a much-needed boost ahead of an extremely important season.
