Everton winger Aiden McGeady looks set to leave the club this summer.
McGeady, 29, has fallen out of favour at Goodison Park after another season blighted by injuries and inconsistent performances, and is reportedly on the radar of Premier League side Sunderland and former club Celtic.
According to Chris Beesley in today’s Liverpool Echo, the 29-year-old will seek pastures new after the arrival of former loanee Gerard Deulofeu pushed the mercurial wide man even further down the Blues’ pecking order.
New Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat is in the market for a creative midfielder after North East rivals Newcastle edged ahead of the Black Cats in the race to sign Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum, and is believed to be an admirer of McGeady’s talent from their time together in Russian Premier League.
Beesley’s report states that Roberto Martinez is willing to allow McGeady, a nominal signing from Spartak Moscow, to leave for the right price, and with both Sunderland and Celtic circling, the Blues will hope to start a bidding war for the Paisley-born player.
Indeed, uncorroborated Twitter rumours have emerged over the last 24 hours, stating that the Blues have already rejected a bid in the region of £2 million from Celtic for McGeady, who now looks increasingly likely to leave Merseyside during the summer transfer window.
