Roberto Martinez has been praised in the past for allowing younger players to truly prove themselves in an Everton shirt, resulting in the recent success stories of both attacking midfielder Ross Barkley and central defender John Stones.
And it now appears Martinez is ready to dip his toe into the summer transfer market for new young talent, as the Everton boss prepares to fly out to the Czech Republic to scout the Under 21 championships.
The blue half of Merseyside will be represented at the tournament by England duo John Stones and Luke Garbutt- two fan favourites in the Goodison Park terraces.
The Toffees manager is hoping to strengthen the squad following a disappointing eleventh placed finish last season.
Speaking to evertonfc.com Martinez said: “There are some great games to follow and watch in the tournament and any game is an opportunity to find talent and to find different kinds of players, and it’s a great way sometimes to relax – to watch games while the preparations for the new pre-season are underway”.
The Spaniard then went on to say a manager’s job doesn’t end when the final whistle blows on the final day of the season. They need to continue to work through the summer too.
He said: “As a manager, you shouldn’t switch off in the summer because you’d miss too much. The privilege of being the Everton manager allows me to see the role as a passion. I don’t see it as a job, just something that should be part of the daily routine.”
