Roberto Martinez has been sacked as manager of Everton Football Club.
The Blues have underperformed in the league for a couple of seasons and the Goodison hierarchy have called time on the Catalonians three years at the club.
Martinez was appointed as Everton manager in the summer of 2013 and guided the Blues to their Premier League record points tally in his first season on Merseyside.
Things didn’t go so well in his second season as European travails and a worrying loss of form meant the Blues finished in the bottom half for the first time in almost a decade.
His third and ultimately final season in charge of the Toffees started relatively well but eventually unravelled in spectacular fashion, with the away maulings at Anfield, the King Power and the Stadium of Light typifying the sorry current state of affairs at Goodison Park.
Martinez did guide Everton to two domestic cup semi-finals but failed to make the final step as his side were knocked out by Manchester City and Manchester United in both the Capital One Cup and F.A Cup respectively.
Evertonians had been voicing their discontent for a number of weeks with multiple ‘Martinez Out’ banners displayed on a number of occasions.
Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri are now on the hunt for a new manager and have been linked with the likes of Frank De Boer, Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho.
