Cuco Martina has seemingly suffered a new low at Everton in being relegated to the Under-23s squad.
The versatile full-back returned from loan this summer after spending last season with both Stoke City and Feyenoord on separate loan spells, to find out that he isn’t in Marco Silva’s first-team plans.
With Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne at left-back, and Seamus Coleman and Djibril Sidibe on the right, Martina’s path to first-team football is considerably blocked, and the defender will be forced to remain at Goodison Park until at least January without senior game time.
However in a new low for the Curacao international, it seems as though Martina has been officially relegated to the reserve side at Everton.
On the club’s official website, Martina is listed in the Under-23s section of the squad information page. While he is also in the first-team section too, fellow outcast Oumar Niasse is only in the first-team section, indicating that Martina may have officially been moved down into David Unsworth’s set up.
Martina’s days are definitely numbered on Merseyside, it just remains to be seen whether he will depart in January or in the summer when his contract expires.

From the very beginning, Martina was a mad signing, wasn’t he? It never made a great deal of sense, save for him being familiar with the way in which Ronald Koeman arranges a team.
From my memory there wasn’t a game where Martina wasn’t relentlessly criticised by the Everton fan base so it would make sense for him to leave as soon as the possibility arises, and in the meantime he is getting game time away from disrupting the senior side.
