Marco Silva heaps praise on ‘fantastic’ Ademola Lookman

Everton boss Marco Silva has praised youngster Ademola Lookman’s attitude, admitting he is confident the winger is ready to step up into the starting line-up, the Liverpool Echo report.

The 21-year-old has featured just seven times for the Toffees this season, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup defeat to Southampton in October.

However, Lookman has impressed in his cameo appearances off the bench in the Premier League, setting up Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late strike against Crystal Palace with an inch perfect cross.

The wide man also made an instant impact in the Bundesliga last season, scoring five times in 11 appearances for RB Leipzig in a brief loan stint in Germany.

The England under-21 international’s consistent performances have left many calling for the winger to be used from the start by Silva, with the Toffees boss admitting earlier in the week he is doing enough for a starting spot.

He’s doing enough, I don’t have doubts about that.

There’s tough competition, not just for him but for all the players, but he’s making it really difficult for those who are playing which is what I want.

I have had no doubts since the first day, I’ve always spoken about my belief in him and I think he’s a fantastic football player. I’m sure he can achieve really important things with this football club and in his career.

With Lookman’s spell in Germany catching the eye of numerous European sides, Silva may have to hand the youngster a starting spot soon, or risk losing the winger permanently in January.
