Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has today been withdrawn from the Belgium squad for their upcoming qualifiers against Cyprus and Israel.
The in form 21-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory away at QPR, and, after travelling to see national team medics this morning, was deemed unfit to take part in either the game against Cyprus in Brussels on Saturday or the following match against Israel in Jerusalem next Tuesday.
Lukaku, who scored for the Blues in their disappointing 5-2 defeat away at Dynamo Kyiv in midweek, will instead stay on Merseyside to receive treatment and recuperate in the hope of facing Southampton at Goodison on Saturday 4th April.
The severity of the injury is as of yet unknown, meaning the club have yet to put a potential time-frame on the burly striker’s absence.
Teammate Kevin Mirallas is also out of the Red Devils squad after the winger sustained a dead leg in the Europa League last 16 tie against Dynamo.
