Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley has praised Everton goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, who took a pay cut to return to the John Smith’s Stadium in January, as reported by Examiner Live.
The Denmark international was released by the Terriers in the summer as the club were relegated to the Championship.
As a free agent, the 31-year old signed a three-year contract with Everton to become Jordan Pickford’s back-up at Goodison Park.
However, the Dane has yet to make an appearance for the Toffees, while he was replaced on the bench by Maarten Stekelenburg in nine of the 11 Premier League games since Marco Silva was sacked (Transfermarkt).
Lossl agreed to a short-term Huddersfield return in order to boost his chances at making Denmark’s squad for the Euros in the summer, and Cowley has praise this commitment to winning more game time, saying:
For the supporters, we knew they had a relationship with him and when I first spoke to Jonas, you could really feel his love for the club and the supporters and you could feel that he wanted to come back and help.
That really motivated us to try and get it done and thankfully we were able.
We have to thank Jonas in that because Jonas has actually taken a bit of a pay cut as well to make it happen, he wanted it to happen that much.
That’s testament to him. I’m not sure his wife’s too happy, but hey-ho.

Given how poor Jordan Pickford has been this season, I’m surprised that Lossl never got the chance to impress for Everton, not even in either of the cup competitions.
Stekelenburg hasn’t had that luxury either though, meaning that Pickford has played every single game for the Blues this season.
Lossl clearly has his heart set on reaching the Euros with Denmark, and that is something that can’t be faulted, and his desire to play football outweighing his wage demands is an admirable quality to have too.
Hopefully, game time for Huddersfield will either mean that Lossl returns to Merseyside ready to compete next season, or that Everton will be able to make some profit on a player who cost the club nothing last season.
