The 2015/16 season is now up and running, with a number of U21 players have been sent out on loan to gain experience at lower league clubs, from the Championship to the Evo-Stik Premier League North.
Jonjoe Kenny and Francisco Junior joined League One side Wigan. Junior, who has played four league games, has yet to hit the net since joining the DW Stadium outfit and has spent most of his time on the bench. Jonjoe Kenny’s chances at Wigan have been a lot better compared to his Portuguese counterpart, as Kenny has started most of Wigan’s games- most recently on Saturday when he couldn’t help his side as they went down 3-2 away to Port Vale.
Calum Dyson has recently returned from his month loan at National League North side Stockport County where he impressed for County. After scoring three goals, he now returns to Finch Farm to continue his training with the Under 21’s, where he bids to become a regular starter for David Unsworth’s side. Even though Dyson has left the club, Everton’s links with County are still alive and kicking as Warrington-born Jordan Thorniley remains at the club. Left-footed Thorniley is a regular starter in the centre of defence and recently played 90 minutes in the sides 1-1 draw at home against Brackley Town.
Luke Garbutt is currently at Finch Farm recovering from the broken ankle and hasn’t been able to play a game for Fulham yet, but hopes to be back as soon as possible to gain valuable first team experience and help the Cottagers earn promotion back to the top flight. Garbutt has stepped up his rehabilitation programme and is expected to challenge James Husband for the left-back berth at Craven Cottage in the coming weeks.
Finally, U21’s goalkeeper Russell Griffiths has also returned back to the fold after a one month loan spell at Northern Premier League North side Northwich Victoria. Griffiths played 5 games and kept 4 clean sheets.
UPDATE: Conor McAleny made his Charlton debut in last night’s disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Huddersfield Town. 23-year-old McAleny came off the bench and impressed in his 17 minutes on the pitch.
