Lacina Traore could make a shock return to Everton in January, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 6ft 8in Ivorian made just one start for the Blues during his loan spell at Goodison, scoring against Swansea in the FA Cup. He subsequently got injured and looked likely to be sent back to Monaco with his loan deal cancelled, but he stayed at the club during his rehabilitation and was brought on for the final minutes in Everton’s last game of the season away at Hull.
According to the Echo, Roberto Martinez has sent his scouts back to France to check up on how the striker is doing, with the possibility of renewing the clubs interest. They also mention that one report claims Traore could be an option, should Everton see interest in Romelu Lukaku turn concrete, but that seems rather farfetched.
Traore has made 9 appearances for Monaco this season, scoring two goals as his side lie 9th in the Ligue 1 table.
With Arouna Kone deployed in more of a wing role this season, Everton are in need of a striker and Martinez could see Traore having a point to prove to the fans. Though, it is still unlikely that it would be him to replace Romelu Lukaku, who has been linked with a move away.
