Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is interested in the vacant Everton job following Roberto Martinez’s sacking this afternoon, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The Dutchman has been in charge for almost two years at St Mary’s but has been named alongside compatriot Frank De Boer as a possible candidate for Everton’s managerial job.
Despite having only a year left on his contract at Southampton, Koeman is yet to pen a new deal that would secure his future on the south coast. It is understood that Everton have not made any contact with possible candidates as of yet but Koeman is highly rated by the Everton hierarchy and will certainly be high on the Toffees shortlist.
Accompanying De Boer and Koeman on Everton’s managerial shortlist is outgoing Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and two-time Champions League winner Jose Mourinho, who will both be looking for a new project when the Premier League season reaches its end.
Everton will hope to wave farewell to a disappointing season and end on a high on Sunday, especially with Everton icon Joe Royle returning to the touchline alongside former defensive stalwart David Unsworth.
